Default Taking a job in Suffern.

My husband is thinking of taking a job in Suffern. We are on the west coast and know very little about NY. I am wondering what the best places for our kids to live and go to public school in that area are. From what I have been able to find online the schools there are good. I would love any input about this area and maybe 20 miles around it. Ideally, we would live in the same area where he works, to avoid lost time commuting. Any ideas? Thank you for any help.

The specific area there is a very nice area. Taxes and prices are high however. You can go 15 minutes North of there and get a bigger bang for your buck and depending on where you settle the school districts are sometimes a little bit better. From what I'm told, a lot of kids are private schooled in Northern Rockland County, but a resident from there would be able to tell you better statistics on that.

I would recommend looking into the Monroe-Woodbury School district as well as the Warwick Valley School district as they (statistically speaking) are the better school districts in Southern Orange County.

Suffern itself is a great area though, with gorgeous homes and a great location with respect to shopping, access to major highways, and things of that nature.

I see Orange County as a better investment though as it still has room to grow which leaves more profit potention long term as Rockland County has pretty much hit its limit for real growth due to lack of land (Rockland is the smallest county in New York State as per City-Data)

Good Luck and don't hesitate to ask any questions if you have them, that's why we're all here!

~Joey

Suffern is really nice. A village type atmosphere within the greater NYC region.
It also has train service into NYC.

Suffern has a Main Street (route 59) lined with shops and of course there are the larger suburban malls in Rockland County NY and Bergen County NJ. Suffern is basically on the NY/NJ state line. There's also a hospital in the village.

Do you want quick access to NYC? Lakes? Mountains? Neigborhoods or privacy? If you can give me an idea of what your family likes to do I can suggest areas within quick reach of Suffern that could help ease your transition AND at what will seem like bargain pricing.........Hank
