From rt 219 to rt 14, what is the level of crime and violence in the rural towns and cities of WNY? Are people angry? Will they start fights easily? This may sound like a strange question but I live in a region where brawls, stabbings, and shootings are becoming common. Is the drug problem high or average?

Interesting question......I don't think that violence is an issue in that area. Drugs may be an issue, but if we are going to be honest, it is an issue everywhere to some degree.
Are there certain communities in that area that you are interested in? Just as a suggestion, but what about a community like Geneseo, which has a highly acclaimed SUNY campus and in turn, a highly "educated" populace? It is only about 35 minutes south of Rochester. So, it is possible to live there and to work in the immediate Rochester area. Here is a street view of the village: https://www.google.com/maps/@42.7962...7i13312!8i6656

Thank you. I haven't lived in WNY in ages. Yes, the entire US has a drug problem but some places are worse than others. I wanted to hear locals input. I will check out Geneseo. I haven't narrowed down my decision to any towns yet. Only WNY and I am done with living in cities. The location will also have to be based on work. I won't mind commuting to a suburb or living in a smaller city or active small town. This won't be a sudden move so there is no rush.

True and I get it, as most moves are contingent on other factors.
Just curious, but do you have any criteria in terms of the kind of small city/town you are interested in? Meaning, in terms of walkability, things to do, activities, etc.
And also, what kind of employment would you be looking for?
I'm familiar with quite a bit of the area you mention....grew up in Cattaraugus County, now live in Chemung and work in Steuben. I wouldn't call the people here "angry," although you may find a certain amount of..."blue-collar frustration," could be a term for it? Jobs can be hard to find.
As for drugs, my partner is a counselor who specializes in treating addicts. His caseload is immense, but (and perhaps more importantly) the facilities and programs that would help those with addiction problems are few and far between in this area. :/ That said, it isn't as if you run into junkies and drug-associated crime on every corner. It is all about knowing which corners to avoid....
Ideally a walkable New England type of village. Close enough to the big cities but not too close. Accessible to the Finger Lakes. Location would be centralized for day trips throughout WNY. The option for a vacation cottage is on the table so employment isn't absolutely necessary.
