Default NYer in Midwest and Back Question?

I am so stressed out right now! I am originally from New York, born and raised, but moved out to Oklahoma to be with my fiance now husband. I love the change of pace, hospitality, relaxed and very low cost of living here, however my parents are very old and they want for us to be closer and they don't want to budge from NY. I didn't want to go back to NY, because of the high cost of living and the busy and often times chaotic lifestyle, but I realize that there are quiet, small townish areas in NY just the same as there are here in Oklahoma. The only problem is the transition from this low cost of living back to NY. My parents suggested finding a foreclosed home, but I know nothing about those.

Here in Oklahoma you can get a gorgeous, quality 3 or 4 bedroom 2 bath with huge backyard home for under $100,000 can you imagine that? In New York or anywhere on the Eastcoast, something similar would go for $500,000 and up! Also alot of the homes that cost around $80,000 look like the homes that cost $200,000 and $300,000 in NY. This pisses me off I don't know... I wonder if I could get a foreclosed home in NY for this type of price... like $100,000 - $175,000 range 2 or 3 bedroom? All of these thoughts are very discouraging and I don't want to be stressed out, but I don't know what to do. Any suggestions?

I'm just desperate for ideas... any ideas will be helpful!

You can get the same bang for your buck in Upstate NY as you can in Oklahoma. The property taxes will still be pretty high, but once you get out of the NYC metro in NYS, you can get new 4 bedrooms 2 baths for $150,000.

Hey i'minformed! Thanks for coming to my rescue again...lol. I know that we discussed Rochester last time and since then, we changed from that idea to throwing around the idea of Orlando some, and now back to the reality of us needing to move as close as possible to NY.

You're so right! The more research that I'm doing, the more I'm realizing that we'll most likely need to go Upstate! We're going back North for the Christmas Holidays to visit family, so we may check out a few things.

Thanks again

wendyt is on a distinguished road
The market has definatley become a buyers market, people are dropping their home prices dramatically to get out. Not sure which area you are looking to move, so it depends. There are many more foreclosures, but there are many risks with buying them, it is a long list but you are buying someone elses problems and could end up in legal trouble depending on the situtation. I think you have many options today, and can get a nice house for what you are looking to pay. The spring market is going to be flooded this season which means more opportunity for you! I think the bigger question is do you really want to move in the first place.
