Default Cornwall, NY schools

I am thinking of moving to Orange County and am attracted to Cornwall. But I have some concerns with the schools. I have heard they are excellent and get great test scores, but I have also heard that they use Basal readers which is a very "old school" way of teaching and is generally frowned upon by most educators. Is this a very conservative town / school system? I am worried that this town is too conservative and old school. Is this right?
