Default Patterson, NY Information?

I'm relocating to NY this summer, and am curious about Patterson. Any thoughts/experiences people could share on living in Patterson would be appreciated. I'm hoping it's a charming town (rather than a completely isolated one), but as I can't visit before moving, I am relying on others' perspectives for an idea of the place.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I, like you, hope that Patterson (or the section that I came to know as Putnam Lake), is as I had remembered from last in 1979...My Aunt and Uncle lived there about 3 blocks from the Lake up from the house that was IN the Lake on its own island!!! My Grandfather, who I lived with in the summers in the Bronx would take me to his sister and brother in laws home and the town was gorgeous...I loved it so much that I am retiring in about a year and I will be house hunting there in about a month...just something small and quaint. Now, mind you, I was there last 30 YEARS AGO but remembered it fondly and warmly from when I was 7 til 15 in the 60's era...I spoke to the tax assesor last week who was a great help and sincere with warm wishes ( something I am not used to AT ALL!!!)...Good luck...Please reply back, if you wish...Tom...

Am I remembering the wrong lake? I thought Put Lake was more in Carmel? I don't think Patterson would be considered isolated compared to further north in the state.
Do you think Lucy 06 that relocating anywhere without visiting first is a wise thing to do?
Having lived in rural isolated upstate NY my whole life, what I think isn't isolated could be a nightmare to you. I would be careful in taking others opinions as your reasons to move to a place if you haven't checked it out first.
Just my 2 cents and I wish you all the best,
Pam

I Live in Patterson, NY it is quiet. However it is in the country right on the conn, ny border. About 1.5 hours to albany and 1 hr to NYC it is located well. I dont know where your from but patterson is way above the united states average cost of living. However not as bad if you go more south toward NYC. We are moving out to the South (N.C) for different reasons but there is nothing wrong with Patterson. Nice Rural Living
