Hey guys, been look at the johnson city area to possibly buy a home to use a rental for college students. Looking for any input as to
- Is Johnson city already heavily rented out?
- Neighborhoods to avoid?
- Common issues with home ownership in this area?
- Typical pricing for unit rentals?
Outside of "Central" JC(roughly south of Main to just north of Floral or so), you should be pretty good. Perhaps something around Harry L Drive near the Mall/Wegmans/Calvary Cemetary(essentially northern JC) may be an area to look into.
I'd keep an eye on the area around Wilson Hospital down to Grand Ave - BU is building a new Pharmacy school near the hospital and will be renovating an old factory across the street for their Nursing school. Two of the old Endicott-Johnson factory buildings next to the railroad tracks on Baldwin are being renovated now, for housing if I remember correctly. The removal of the old factory windows alone has improved the look of the area 1000%.
