Any advice on how to decide where to live in Riverdale? How to find a good real estate broker?Do different sections attract different types of people? I am a single mom - mid 50's - kids 14 and 19. I'd like to pick an area or a building where there is some community interaction and I would have a chance to meet other single parents or people my age with kids.
Riverdale is large. Buildings vary from luxury condos, co-ops with doormen overlooking the Hudson River, to ordinary buildings to old mansions and estates. What is your budget and how many bedrooms? That will determine what you can get and where. Am sure you can find family friendly digs since the neighborhood shares a lot with Westchester, being suburban overall and very safe and family-oriented.
You could also look in Woodlawn, on the other side of Van Cortland Park from Riverdale. Safe working class Irish neighborhood, with a short commute to the Bronx Science/Lehman area.

Also has Van Cortlandt Park which the resident use there. MIn difference with Woodlawn is it is *a lot* smaller with less options. Mainly houses, with splatterings of apartment buildings. A few of them are co-ops, but overall the housing stock is generally older.
What about them? Solaria is one of the premier luxury condos in Central Riverdale. Skyview is in North Riverdale and is a co-op. They both offer different amenities and the location of each offers a different way of living in Riverdale. Really depends on your budget. The Solaria allows you to walk to the shops and restaurants nearby across the Henry Hudson Parkway along Johnson Avenue and 235th street. The Skyview is more isolated but a small shopping area is nearby along Riverdale Avenue. You will be further away from the subway too. Both have the same transportation options though (BxM1, BxM2 and BxM18 commuter buses to East and West Midtown and Downtown), and Metro-North. If recall correctly, the Skyview has a shuttle bus to the Riverdale Metro-North station. If considering the Solaria, could use either the Spuyten Duyvil Metro-North station or the Riverdale station since you would be roughly located equally between them. Should know though that the Solaria is one of the most expensive apartment buildings in all of Riverdale. Some apartments go for well over 1 million dollars compared to the Skyview.
