I was looking at the crime and population data and tbh, it doesn't appear to be the ghetto that most people say. The rates are average and the under 25 population (who usually are the cause of trouble) is not high.
Just curious to know if it's changed or it's always been over Exaggerated?

Kingston was known for being dangerous? I think it may come down to it being bigger than most places in that area and dare I say it’s demogr may play a part in this as well. As you may realize though, in a comparative manner, it likely isn’t as bad as people think it is.

If you can view this, here is some information going back to 1985: https://www.bjs.gov/ucrdata/Search/C...risbyJuris.cfm

It appears that the mid/late 80’s had some higher violent crime rates and the city has never had over 3 homicides in a year from 1985-2014. That occurred 3 times in 1988, 1992 and 1995. Both property and violent crimes rates have been going down since the early 1990’s.

If you can not view the info, you can search on that site for the info. Hopefully someone can chime in with more specific information as well.

I went there for some training the other day and I thought it was cool. I just got the vibe on here that it wasn't a good place.

Never realized Kingston was known for being dangerous. It's only got like 20K people living there so I imagine the numbers probably look worse when some kind of violent crime happens compared to larger cities.

I hears some people there listen to the rap music.

Just take precautions. Be ready to run, and take mace. If you get pinned down by a hip hop person, yell, "RAPE!".

Lol, I wasn't scared. It just makes me think about all the areas in the country that get a certain rep but aren't even that bad.
If you go and look at threads where Kingston is mentioned there's definitely some cheerleaders but there's usually an equal number saying don't move to Kingston, it's a violent dump with terrible schools.
