It doesn't really matter what you believe in terms of Rochester's chances somehow being connected to the temperature of hell, the fact is that there have been a couple of prominent analysts that have put Rochester into the top 10 for the cities best suited. Including Moody's which isn't some random blogger's list they thought up.
Having Moody's say you are ranked 4th is pretty much the highest support you can get without getting it straight from the horse's mouth Amazon. It proves that Rochester is very much on the radar no matter how many of the haters wish otherwise.
Note that Moody’s also has the NYC metro highly ranked, because of skilled workforce availability. The problem with that analysis and assumption is that labor costs would be through the roof. I doubt Bezos is looking for a second HQ which dramatically increases costs over WA.
I do think Rochester is an option, but it will be hard to beat Austin or Atlanta.
I wonder if the cities will still be considered individually as well? I also wonder why it is called "Buffalo-Rochester" rather than "Rochester-Buffalo", or even something else? Both cities are nearly the same in population and economies. And in this instance at least most circles would say that Rochester was the stronger candidate. Not trying to start anything. Just a question.
Amazon is not moving it's headquarters to Western NY.
A second headquarters has to attract people from all around the nation, and Western NY is not a top tourism or dream location.
It is Amazon that will attract people from all around the nation. And between the Northeast and Midwest (the largest pool for WNY), there will be plenty of people.
