Will New York join the ranks of Alaska,California,Colorado,D.C.,Maine,Massachusett s,
Michigan,Nevada,Oregon,Vermont and Washington legalizing Marijuana for recreational use.

There are 23 states that have already legalized marijuana for medical use and New York is one of them.

As a conservative I thought long and hard on this issue.
I believe it will have negative affect on neurocognitive functions in the developing brain but so does alcohol.
If an adult with a fully developed brain wants to smoke or drink away a few brain cells it's their choice.
In the end ,under any light, I could not find any reason not to support its legalization.

I am familiar with Alcohol and its positive as well as detrimental effects on society
and have witnessed the positive and negative affects of regular use of marijuana as well.
The positive outcomes boil down to moderation usage.
I think the benefits do not out weigh the dangers but who am I.
A person can go into cardiac arrest and die from overindulging in caffeinated drinks.
There is no man made law protecting the public from over indulgence.
I'm not to thrilled but I am trying to be logical.

Just as fast as one can stop over Uncle Tony for a glass of homemade red wine or Pete for a homemade beer, I see no problem growing a number of cannabis plants in your back yard.

Because of the potential for damage to young developing minds I support the following:
I believe it should fall under the same laws as alcohol.
No drinking and smoking while driving, or working on the job.
No one under the age of 21 can purchase marijuana.

An adult should be responsible to make ,well adult decisions and if there are consequences they are his/hers alone.
As parents its up to you to keep them out of hands of children.

As a State it is up to New York to educate its children on the dangers of marijuana as well as alcohol use.

What is your opinion? Inquiring minds would like to know.

I don't smoke pot anymore, but think it should be legalized. It's no worse than alcohol.

I don't use drugs nor drink alcohol so i don't care just as long as people are held accountable for their actions. Please don't use I was not myself i was too drunk, too high, etc.

Similar to alcohol young people will consume it regardless.

13 to 20 years old will find an older friend to buy it for them or share it with them.

The taxes should go to the homeless, food shelters, after-school programs, physical education, sexual education, personal finance education for teens, young adults and adults, etc. Pot taxes will not fix the MTA.

I think the same argument applies to all drugs. They should all be legal for adults. There seems in our governments a Puritan ethic that just wants to enforce suffering among the people. Don't be too happy, misery is needed to fuel the system. A perfect example is the ban on opiods for people who need them, who have used them for years in order to live productive lives. Can you kill yourself if used improperly? Sure. You can do that with a car or motorcycle as well.

Why not fix the source of the issue? Why put a bandaid that you have to get stronger for a person to get their "fix"'?

All drugs should be legal?? Heroin, crack, coke??

weed is weak, weaker than booze. but no way the same thing as heroin, crack, coke. legalize the petty stuff, cause we do not want a bunch of crazy coke heads doing chin ups on a crowded subway car!

Its going to happen, something I've come to accept. But I'm not really in favor of it (note, I'm not in favor of criminalizing weed possession and use either). There are some health benefits to marijuana use, true. But there are also harmful health effects to weed use (look up the many studies by Wayne Hall and others). All in all, I view increased marijuana use as harmful to society (we'll see increased impaired driving deaths as well as other long term health effects that the taxpayer will end up picking up). True, there are already harmful products that are legal, but the legality/prevalence of one harmful substance has never been a justification for legalizing another harmful substance in my view.

To those who point to the prohibition period: we were already past the point of no return when they tried to ban alcohol; too many people used it and banning it wasn't going to do a damn thing to stop its use. We are nearing that point with marijuana I fear, but are not quite there yet.

They should legalize prostitution. Porno is a billion dollar industry.
