The NYC Metro is already taxing regional communities in NY/NJ to offset their operating costs so people are paying for the NYC's transportation already. I think its very unfair to now make them pay for student transportation, if they can afford this then repeal the MTA Tax,
Public transportation is already free for NYC public school students. If the state can afford to pay for suburban and rural people, what is the problem?

Those commuting are not attending NYC public schools, the example provided is a student that travels from Newburgh to NYC to attend a Private Parochial High School (Regis High School is a private Jesuit university-preparatory school for Roman Catholic young men). Why should state tax dollars be used to pay for a families personal choice to attend a private school?
Public transportation is already free for NYC public school students. If the state can afford to pay for suburban and rural people, what is the problem?
