I’m gonna have to plead ignorance on this one. It was my first time up there, and I was both bamboozled by the variety of stuff my in-laws showed me, and, shall we say, a lot more biased than I am now. Kinda looked like lakes with some hills next door? A second look at Finger Lakes might be warranted...
Yes, as there are quite few nice communities within the region as well.
Even in terms of Niagara Falls, places like Lewiston and Youngstown just north of it are nice options nearby.
I’d say another sleeper area for the late Summer(and Fall) would be the Route 20 corridor. Just in the Syracuse area alone, you have villages such as Skaneateles and Cazenovia. In between both you have beautiful parks such as Delphi Falls and Pratt’s Falls not too far off from that Route 20. In the Fall, you have the apple orchards in LaFayette and Onondaga along the corridor. Hamiltonis not too far south of Route 20 further east into Madison County. You also have Auburn west of Skaneateles with its historical sites(Seward and Tubman Homes, etc.).
I really enjoy hunting in the Corning/Elmira area. It’s a truly beautiful setting.
Yes, the scenery is very nice. Corning is kind of a hidden gem within the state between having a Fortune 500 company, a highly regarded Downtown and a good amount of arts based amenities(multiple museums and an orchestra).
