Bonnie - Since you're doing research, I'm assuming you've read the info on Wikipedia. In case you have not, I'm including the link here: Middletown, Orange County, New York - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As stated in Wikipedia, Middletown is a city in Orange County. However, people refer to the general surrounding area, outside of the city proper, as Middletown.

Where in Scotland are you? We have relatives in Johnstone and my father-in-law is from Fraiserburg. I have not yet had the opportunity to visit Scotland, but hope to one day soon.

Do you have more specific questions about Middletown? How long ago did your father live in NY? You said he was born in NY. Was he born in Middletown? I'm just thinking that if folks here knew more info from you (e.g., timeframe), they would be better able to share information.

Cheers!

I've been going through all the threads on the board about Middletown. I just have a couple specific questions that I was hoping some of the locals out there may be able to answer for me.

The following are coordinates for an area where I'm looking at an apartment (41.474880, -74.374610). If you type them into Google Maps it will show the area I'm looking at. It's Fortune Rd West, zip code 10941.

1) Is this spot within the infamous Middletown School District? I can't really tell from my research so far. It's on the west side of Scotchtown, but I'm thinking that it might be right on the edge of the MSD.

2) Any thoughts on the traffic I'd be running into on the rush hour commute (17 S to 87 S to Mahwah, NJ...and back north in the afternoon)? How long does it take others to get this far? Any recommendations for alternate routes? I'll probably take the train as much as possible, but...

I've spent plenty of time in the area, and I'm comfortable moving there, so I'm not looking for any horror stories about Middletown in general. I can read those in the other threads .

Thanks in advance.

Jason
