Why would a new osteopathic medical school choose to locate in Elmira? Another new osteopathic medical school (Touro) just opened in Middletown (NY).
While on the subject of the Elmira area, is there anything left of Schweitzer Helicopter's manufacturing complex in Horseheads? Also is there anything left of Hardinge, a major machine tool builder once based in Elmira but now based in Berwyn, PA? I can remember when Westinghouse had a major operation in Elmira Heights. At least part of that plant is now used by CAF, a Spanish rail car builder.
You have to have industry to support commerce and new developments.

Yes, it is still there and in fact, there are job openings at the Elmira facility: https://www.hardinge.com/careers/ Schweitzer Helicopter ceased operations in 2012.
Hardinge (pronounced hard inzh) still relies on Japanese companies for electronic controls but bringing manufacturing back is a promising development.
Yes, especially for that area, which seems to be overlooked when it comes to economic development or at least to the same degree as other Upstate areas.
