oops, I forgot to mention...yes Amsterdam, is affordable...or as many call it 'cheap'. If you want a lot of house for your buck, that is the place to go for sure...but keep in mind:

You do not want your children going to their school districts unless Spanish is your primary language and you do not really mind if your children learn to read as long as they can play good football...is that you? OOOOHHHH then Amsterdam is for you!!

Another thing to remember is the city is basically dead and lives off the welfare of our government. The only good areas are infested nightly with drug addicts looking to rob or steal...the place is a dump! People in surrounding areas call it Amsterico and avoid it whenever possible! We drive as far as Saratoga and Albany before shopping there! Here is a clue: Walmarts and Taco bell are thriving in Amsterdam while Target and Applebees are barely making it...hmmmm....

One more thing I forgot to mention....then I will stop giving my opinion that I am sure will be well recieved by anyone who does not live there! The true visual of Amsterdam:

Amsterdam is Gloversville on a Beans and Rice diet

I visited Amsterdam several times in the last two years, and although there are some economic issues, they seem to be the same ones from which all of the country has suffered in those years.

I saw some beautiful old homes that were reasonably priced in walking neighborhoods fairly close to downtown. My mother-in-law is receiving excellent health care in an assisted living facility there. She is also being treated by excellent care-givers in the hospital there.

I met the mayor there, Ann Thane, who seems to have breathed new life into the political scene with innovative ideas and remarkable energy. There does seem to be a vestige of back-room politics by the good old boy network still active there, but that is probably on life support now because the majority of the citizens of Amsterdam have decided that the new mayor, without any agendas that fatten her wallet, is trying to govern with the best interest of Amsterdam's people in mind.

I like Amsterdam. I like the people I've met there.

Regards,
