Try Indian River, South Jefferson, General Brown and Sackets Harbor school districts as well. Most of the children on Fort Drum actually go to Indian River schools, with a good portion going to Carthage schools. There's also military housing in Gouverneur, Lowville, Copenhagen, Clayton(1000 Islands SD), with the rest being either in the Watertown, Carthage and Indian River school districts.

I am considering buying a home between 300 and 400 Gotham in Watertown. Is this a good or so called less desirable area? Also why is Aresenal and the Square considered less appealing? Thanks

Gotham is in the nicest part of the city, which is the South side of town. The area you are looking in is closer to Downtown, but you shouldn't have any problems there. It's not too far from the zoo.
As far as Arsenal and the Square, I think it has more to do with the fact that the infrastructure is older in those areas. It's not a thing of crime around those areas, but I would think more about the age of the homes and residences.

GOtham is not the nicest part of the city. The area they are speaking of is from the Strand up a few blocks. Make sure you know what you are talking about before you post that. Gotham St is nice once you get past E Flower Ave. The age of MOST homes in Watertown are similiar, since it is an old city. The reason Arsenal St and the Square are not desireable is becaues they are mainly run down apartments and duplexes with no yard for children. So for the most part they are cheaper to rent which has brought in a lot of drug dealers, punk kids and so on and so forth. I lived in Watertown for 23 years, and go back to visit every 3 months. State St starts to get nice after N Pleasant St....Arsenal's cross sections are ok to live on. MIll St and E Main have some not so desireable areas.

True, that part is so-so, but it's not bad. Actually, Watertown is gritty in parts, but I wouldn't say it is "bad".
Also, the South side of the city is nicer and is where most of the upper middle class people live, while the North side of the city is more blue collar and poorer. These are just observations from when I was stationed at Fort Drum from 200-2003. I've gone up there now and then since that time as well.
