Excellent school, beautiful area. I grew up nearby and graduated from Fredonia in the early 90's and my youngest sister is about to graduate this spring from Fredonia. We both loved our experience there from the Professors to the friends we made. Have you toured the school and seen the area yet?

I graduated from SUNY Fredonia in 2005 with an English degree. It's a nice area; small town. You feel safe when you're there.

The professors were very knowledgable and overall, I enjoyed my experience there.

To be honest, I'd rate it pretty low on the SUNY scale. Buffalo, Binghamton, and Stonybrook are much more academically respected. If you want that small college town feel, Binghamton is in the middle of nowhere as well.

I haven't been there in a few years, but I remember the buildings as being fairly outdated.

It also depends on what your son is planning on majoring in. It used to have a highly regarded music program, but from what I hear it has deteriorated quite a bit. I had music teachers who loved the program while there, but told students that they would no longer recommend enrolling there.

Then again, I know quite a few who graduated from the Elementary Education program and loved it. Getting a education degree from anywhere in NY is generally valued elsewhere in the country.
