Those are quaint little villages. Chatham is near Hudson where I lived for 6 years. It's most def a green county .. lots and lots or trees!! But, you'll be paying out the butt for car insurance. Columbia county has more DWI's per capita in all of NYS. So the insurance companies treat everybody as suspects no matter how good your record it!
Columbia county is beautiful, geographically. Lived there for many years. I don't think the economy is that great, but you can commute to Albany or other larger cities.
Quieter lifestyle. People generally friendly, lots of small villages, many people have lived there their whole lives with roots there. Some NYC folks there for 2nd homes. Depends on what you need and want.
