Batavia area help?
I am planning on moving up there with a friend in the summer.
Where is the best apartment to live in under 800/month that includes a good amount of the utilities? We also need them to allow 2 dogs(the main reason we need to get our own apartment) Alot of the websites we check seem to be outdated and who better than residents who live there to help us out!! We would like to be in the Batavia area because we are planning on attending Genesee Community College. We arent one of those rowdy college students so no worries. We are pretty quiet and just need a roof over our heads.
We also need jobs if you know any place that is hiring this summer. I am 17 and my friend is 18. We will be up there in the beginning of July.
Also, is Batavia really diverse and safe? I do not want to live in another NYC area for the moment but I would like some diversity as I am not white or black. I am hispanic and my friend is asian. We are intelligent human beings who come from good backgrounds and good families!!
THANKS!!

Dear drxrazzberi,
I've lived in Batavia for over 30 years and would be happy to help with your questions. I am away for the month, but should still be of some help.
Batavia is very safe when compared to NYC. It has a low crame rate, and is serviced by both the NYS Troopers, Genesee county Sheriffs dept, and its own Batavia city Police force.
The Genesee college dorms have a few problems at times, as many college dorm apts generally do.
I'm not there to check the local "The Daily News"for you, but apts are listed there. 800/month with utilities is do-able in Batavia. Dogs may limit your choices a bit, but those apts are out there.
As to jobs, Darien lake hires for the summer, as well as some of the area farms. Target is starting to hire, and there is a Walmart, Home Depot, etc. You do not say what skills you have, so I just suggested some normal student type jobs.
You also have Buffalo and Rochester only 30 miles away for "big city" entertainment, etc.
My help is somewhat limited as I am not there right now, but feel free to ask any questions. Good luck...Batavia is a nice place.
Frank D.
