moving to potsdam, ny- any advice?
Hi, I'm a girl in her 30's moving to potsdam, ny for work. I'm looking for some advice on good fitness gyms, place for meditation classes, restaurants, things to do. I'm moving from the NYC metro area. I'm not expecting things to be as convenient or vast but hoping to experience something good

Potsdam
There is nothing in Potsdam . Hey they think Walmart is a big deal here! Fittness gyms LOL there is one that looks like it belongs in someones basement ..Ive had better nautalis equipment. Resturaunts are all filthy and owned by one man. The Mexican place serves "navy beans " not a pinto or kidney in the bunch...classy! NOT. Yoga classes you might find via the co-op which is the healthfood junk food emporium, and a far cry from the natural food stores Ive been involved with. Great place to go for organic chocolate covered soybeans and granloa bars..lol..yeah. Town closes up at 5 pm sharp. Resturaunts dont even bother to open before 4 pm. Its definately a culture shock I havent gotten used to in 20 yrs. If I were you I'd stay below Albany

Why Potsdam??????
Is there another alternative? Have you been there to look around yet at all? You might want to come and take a look before you change jobs................Probably NOT at all what you are expecting................Would STRONGLY advise visiting before making irreversible changes in career.......You can only decide if the many changes in your lifestyle will be worth that job........You can take the Amtrak up from the city and get off the train in Plattsburgh and drive to Potsdam from here. It will be worth it and you will get both the beauty of the train trip along the Hudson Valley and Adirondacks and when you rent the car you will see how much more isolated you become as you move away from the Lake Champlain, I-87, colleges and smaller cities to where you are going. I mean Plattsburgh is like NYC compared to Potsdam! Good luck to you.

SLU has great facilities and I know that residents of Canton get great rates at the athletic facilities at SLU
