This can be said for Buffalo and Rochester as well... maybe not the snow... but in Rochester we only had to have the plow come for the driveway a total of three times this year (they come when the snow hits 3 inches) if that tells you anything about the weather here lately (the year before was similar- only a handful of times). I would say Rochester if you have a job lined up (must have a job lined up)

I've lived in Central and Upstate NY for most of my life. But I've also lived in 5 other states. I can;'t wait to leave Ny. Please dont move here! The people are absolutley miserable and there is nothing to do. Syracuse, Buffalo and Rochester are disgusting cities.

Or she's on the syracuse.com forums all the time. They are pretty miserable on many of the forums there.

Curious.......
How old (approximately) is Jessica??????????
The things that you might dislike now about these areas might be the very reasons you come back after living elsewhere..........think you are wise to move and discover that some of these 'wonder cities' have a whole other set of issues that may make upstate NY look really great after you've sat in traffic for hours or had your house, car broken into, or mugged or waited for a seat in a movie or restaurant so long that you miss most of the party, game, whatever you had planned for the rest of that evening. Sometimes the grass is greener, but it ain't always....

I am from upstate n.y. And i must say it is beautiful for a few quick months in the summer time. Other than that it sucks. No jobs unless you can be a prison guard(not a nice place to work), or work for the cities or townships which do not pay much. Noone is moving to upstate n.y. Unless they were originally from there and think they are homesick. I moved back once and kicked myself for doing it. A summer home would be o.k.. For the most that is the armpit of the state.

That depends on where you are in Upstate too. If you are from a city that depends on jobs like the one you named, then of course it will suck. It sounds like someone from say Auburn, Elmira or some other community where a prison is a big part of the economy. Cities like Binghamton, Saratoga Springs, Ithaca and the Hudson Valley area are actually doing OK. Syracuse is holding steady too. so, it depends on where you go in NY State.

NYS is not a united front and the further you get from NYC you might as well be from PA or Cananda for all they care... If you are interested in WNY anyone from the Eastern portion of Upstate on down to NYC will try and talk you out of it even if they have never stepped foot West of the Hudson...

I live in near Albany and honestly, I am looking to move somewhere much more rural and AFFORDABLE. Good luck affording land around here and if you can the taxes will give you a heart attack.
It's totally different in CNY and WNY. As for the comments that there's no architectural elements and Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse are itty btty specks on the map....GET A MAP!!! And a AAA book! FYI: Buffalo - YES Buffalo - is hte 2nd most populated city in ALL of NY. #1 is Manhattan. #3 is Rochester. #4 is Syracuse.
I spend a lot of time in the Finger Lakes year round. I am one of those weirdo eastern NYers who LOVE CNY and WNY. There's a lot out there that we don't have here. If you are the outdoorsy type, there's TONS to do year round. The taxes are much less also especially when you get out of the city.
Go visit CNY and WNY! If you're even thinking about moving there, you REALLY need to check it out.
Oh and I hope you REALLY like snow! Did you grow up where there was a lot of snow? Syracuse gives a whole new meaning to snow.....LOL
