Albany or Utica area health food stores?
We are possibly moving from So Cal. to the Albany or Utica areas and I am wondering if there are any health food stores similar to a Whole Foods or Trader Joes in the Central part of the state

Hey I hope this answers your question. In Albany there is a place called The Honest Weight Food Co-op ( http://www.hwfc.com/]Honest (broken link) Weight Food Coop ). It's right on Central Avenue behind the Family Dollar. I've never shopped there before. But it's still there. Hope this helps![/font]

Most larger Price Chopper stores (the Capital Region's grocery mecca) also have a pretty good organic/natural selection. The one on New Scotland Ave. in Slingerlands has an entire organic section.

Eh, I think most organic foods anywhere are overpriced. And commercial? I dunno what you mean by that, but if you live in the Albany area you probably should shop at Price Chopper. It is based in Rotterdam and owned by the Golub family (who live in Niskayuna) and its employees (who live throughout the Capital Region.) So shopping at Price Chopper definitely helps the area's economy.

By commerical I mean. You can find the same products at Hannaford that you find at Price Chopper.
Only thing Price Chopper is good for is perhaps the buy on get one or two free sales. Meats are ok .. but over priced. And right now you'r paying for them remodeling their stores. Funny how they don't upgrade the ghetto PC's. The Delaware Ave and Madison Ave stores .. left .. ghetto!
Shop at WalMart for 90% of your normal groceries. Especially since the Crossgates Commons WalMart is now a super center open 24/7.
I like to shop the local places too and help the county economy. But, if I can get it someplace cheaper and save $.50 I'll take that $.50 and put it in my tank.
I think that twinmum was looking for more of a uber-health food store. And Honest Weight Food is just that. I'm really surprised that there isn't another one of these types of stores. It's kinda trendy right now.

Hannaford and Price Chopper are Utica/Albany/downstate stores (also New England for Hannaford). You go past Utica and you don't get them. You can say Mohawk Valley to refer to the area from Utica to Albany.
Theres also a BJ's in Utica which is a wholesale store, you can find alot there.

Price Chopper has stores west of Utica. There are four Price Choppers in the Syracuse market.
The main two grocery stores for the Syracuse market are Wegmans and Price Chopper. Wegmans is king in the Syracuse market...with 9 stores in the city and burbs. Though I believe Price Chopper is second with only 4 stores. Super Wal-Mart, P&C and Aldi all have smaller market share locally.
