I don't find rows and rows of antique shops that charming--a few here and there, yes. You can say, however,--yes, at least the people from Manhattan have tried to revive a dying city. Columbia county is a breath of fresh air for most of them and inexpensive compared to their cost of living.
There's always been a clash, too, between those who who've lived in Hudson their whole lives and the Manhattaners who "invaded." Culturally, etc.. They are from different worlds. We used to call them "City birds," and they would call us "Woodchucks."
The artsy shops;I don't recall seeing many 7 years ago, but maybe there are more now. There were some nice down town restaurants years ago. The brooks, streams, ponds, hills, animal life of Columbia County are unparalleled in beauty and some of the surrounding small cities are quaint, but Hudson has taken a plunge down.
More poverty, drugs, run down buildings. Coming in new to Hudson, it could be seen as quaint, in part, but from having lived there so many years and going back--it's just a sad city.

I think the problem with coming back to a town you thought once was nice is that you don't like the changes... change happens and Husdon is in transition. Allot of money is there and former locals, like yourself, want a 1960 version of a 2008 town.

I may be new but I have lived all over the world in big cities and small towns (even Phoenix) and I know positive trends when I see them. Money comes here in big way every summer weekend ... thats a positive for everyone even if it is from antique dealers and cafes. Thats the way it is now.

Yes, I,too, appreciate your insights PoshAccent. I don't live in Hudson but I was there a couple of weeks ago and was very impressed by Warren Street and with all the rehabbing being done on the street behind it. There is still a lot of work to be done for sure but I'm sure that's what makes it attractive to many folks.
