We moved to Concord, NC and can't wait to high tail it out of here and back up to New Jersey. I miss living so close to New York and the shore. There's nothing here that "I can make of" to substitute going to the Garden for a Rangers game, Yankee Stadium for a ballgame, a beer on the boardwalk and watching games with my Dad.
On top of that, a lot of the stereotypes down here are based in truth. However I fell victim to what I think a lot of us won't admit to doing. When I saw posts on this board I would see ten responses with stuff I didn't want to hear. Then I'd see that one post validating what I wanted to believe and ran with it. Now that I've lived here I wish I paid attention to the initial responses.
That's neither here nor there though. We're leaving for NJ in a few months. North Carolina is a great place to visit, I'd rather not live here any longer.

No offense but you moved to CONCORD, NC. That is one redneck town. You should of done your research.

Here in Fl
Nearly everyone who comes South, at one point or another says.
"Well up North we did it this way"..........there's a bumper sticker that says
if you don't like it here and the way we do things, the road leads North.
I gotta laugh..........everyone wants what they had back home, we want Macy's...we want Target.......we want Shoprite.......you knew these things weren't here before you moved, so why did ya move here? And if all those things were here, would ya all be happy? Nope, then they'd find something else to complain about.
Only my 2 cents

Let's Be Fair.
I think you all need to be fair about the south, and southern people. I have lived in several southern states since leaving Brooklyn in 1986. People in the south are just like any other, it's all about who you meet and what vibes you give off.
I am now residing in Cary, NC, and it's not bad. I believe the blogger from Raleigh, NC may have caused his own discomfort while living here. What I have come to find out by listening to the people who where born and raised here have stated is the area with its massive growth is loosing its identity, which is something I can sympathize with.

Please...Concord is hardly a redneck town. It's one of the more "northernized" areas of NC. I can't tell you how many New Jersey and New York plates I've seen outside of my complex alone.

YANKEE, n. In Europe, an American. In the Northern States of our Union, a New Englander. In the Southern States the word is unknown. (See DAMYANK.)

Man, one of my really good friends is from up North. He is the funniest guy I know. I love him! Just hanging around him I have learned:
Southerners are too polite. It's aggravating. You can't get anything done.
Racism is alive and well up North, but different words are used to denote a wide variety of minorities. Down South it is so boring because everyone is either a redneck, black, or mexican. It's aggravating.
People with money don't like people without money wherever you are, unless you are a type of minority, then it is cute. It's really aggravating to see non minorities without money. I mean, get a better job. Try Charlotte.
People with money don't like other people with more money. Very aggravating.
Southerner's talk badly about Northerner's amongst themselves. Very aggravating. Northerner's talk badly about Southerner's amongst themselves but often can't quite reach a quorum in the South, so they have to vent on internet chat rooms. It's aggravating.
Philly is the only place you can get a Philly Cheesesteak.
Yankee beer brands can be hard to locate in the South. Very aggravating.
Southerners often don't pick up on it when they are insulted. One has to really work at insulting a Southerner, then they get all worked up and start using the D.... Y...... word. It's aggravating.
It can be intimidating when a Northerner starts to like their Southern surroundings as much or more than their former home in the North. Very aggravating and best remedied with some loud complaining about why the South doesn't compare at all with the North.
Shoveling snow sucks and is a good reason to move South.

I am a native New Yorker, born in Manhattan and still live in the city and I must say New Yorkers are far more annoying then Southerners. Talk about rude, trendy, obnoxious,,,and trashy. Racist as well (though veiled). Planning to move down south to Alabama and be with my love,

hey ankou. be warned. there are annoying people in alabama as well. assure you. to me, it is all about what one wants in life. what one finds peace in and what one values. life can be great anywhere or everywhere. it is what one does with his/her life. imagine, you will find the peace, the quality of life and the things that matter if you are with the one you love. i can promise you that. sounds hopeful optimistic romantic???? thats because it is. what a differnece a day can make. it is all about what we do with this life that we have......... it can be and will be wonderful.....ANYWHERE and EVERYWHERE. This sounds so friggin sappy??? yep. can't help it. so, i give little thought to most of these postings doing the north vs. south b.s. it all comes down to what we want in life and where we chose to be. the biggest enemy is always ignorance. sadly, it is universal. guess the red dirt is calling you home.
