There is a mall outside of middletown, in the town of wallkill (Scotchtown) which is where I recommend you buy a home but get Pine Bush or Goshen schools NOT Middletown schools. I would stay out of Middletown all together. There is a hospital and also one in Goshen (Arden Hill). I lived in Scotchtown (outskirts of Middletown) for eight years and can answer pretty much anything about Middletown.

I'm not Barber_kid but I can help with your questions. I live in Goshen and do all my shopping in Middletown.

The shopping in Middletown is great. As was mentioned we have the mall which also has a Target and movie theater and all the regular normal stores a mall has. Then next to it you have stores like Best Buy, Further down on 211 you have Walmart, Kohls, TJMax, Marshalls, and tons of other stores. We just got a Steve and Barry's, then we have A.C. Moore craft stores, Toy's R Us, and Babies R Us, Payless, and Home Depot. We have a Sam's Club and Lowes, and Gander Mnt. next to the mall too. There are tons of restaurants like TGI Fridays, Olive Garden, Applebee's, OutBack, Ruby Tuesday's, Starbucks, and a lot more. I usually don't venture into the city of Middletown, but I do know there are some really good restaurants there. As for food shopping you have the Walmart, Hannoford's, Price Chopper, and Shop Rite. All not too far from eachother. So your choices are good. The hospitals aren't as good as in Rockland County or NYC, but that will soon change. They are building a new hospital, Orange Regional Medical Center and it is suppose to be state of the art, Trauma unit, helicopter pad, everything. Sort of like Westchester Medical center. Not sure if they will have a special children's unit. So they are combining the hospital in Middletown and Goshen(formally called Arden Hill) to have this one big hospital. I'm not sure of the date of completion but they are working on it now from what I saw a few days ago.

Let me know if you have any other questions about the area.

Dear Desnik: Thank you for so much information. I really appreciate it. Do you think the new hospital will open in a year?

How is transportation if we want to go into NYC to see a show?

Do any of your schools have adult education courses?

Any places you can see a play in the area?

Any other info you can think of would be greatly appreciated.

Trying to sell our house so we can move to Middletown (over 55 community).

If you want you can email me at irisbobi@hotmail.com

Have a great weekend and thanks.

Oh you are very welcome! I'm glad to help! Let's see if I can answer some questions for you.

My husband works in Manhattan and drives in everyday so a trip to the city for a show is easy to do!

It would take about an hour 15 mins. to get into the city. My husband and I go often to see shows and for dinner. That's just another bonus of living in the area. Far enough from the city but close enough to enjoy what it has to offer. We always drive in.

There are buses to take you into the city. Here is a website for that :
Short Line Bus

Adult education courses are offered at Orange Community College:
Continuing and Professional Education, SUNY Orange
And at Boces(which is in Goshen)
Adult & Continuing Education - OU BOCES, Orange County, NY

You can see plays in the area at:
index.gif
That is in the Warwick/Sugar Loaf area which wouldn't be too far from you.

Here is a link to the hospital and info on the new one being built:
Orange Regional Medical Center

There are a couple of Golf Courses in the area too. Oh, also many orchards around the area. Fall is our favorite time here. You can go apple picking, pumpkin picking and all of the orchards offer fresh pies, jams, and other goodies.

Oh, there is the airport in Newburgh which isn't far. They were just bought by the Port Authority so now they are making big changes. It is an International Airport and there should be more flights going to different places soon. It's a great airport and Jet Blue flies out of there.

If there is anything else I can think of I'll let you know.
