Default live in Windsor

I can help here a littel .. I have lived int he town of Windsor my whole life. Grew up in West windsor between Windsor and Binghamton and graduated from windsor in 1978... married and living back within a mile of where I grew up. The schools are great .. my 12 yr old is in middle school and my wife works as a TA in one of the three Elementary schools. While ther greater Binghamton area is the place for employment (I work in Endcott), shopping and entertainment the twon has a lot going for it. My son ahd played in the Windsor Little league (with Dad coaching) for 4 years. The Windsor youth commision also runs both soccer, b ball and football programs. A nice little town that is only 20 min from a larger city .. best of both worlds!

sstan-
thanks for the info- sounds promising. We visited 2 weeks ago and hung out at the park where there were tons of families out doing the soft ball thing- seemed friendly. The main street area seemed kind of depressed though- which made me sad b/c there are some great buildings there. I spoke to the very nice lady in the gallery and another woman at the farmers market- good info.
I hope you don't mind answering a few questions for me...
what do people do for fun in the winter time?
is it a pretty religious community? our family doesn't go to church-would we be left out?
where do people take their pets for veterinary care? i am a vet...

i think that's it for now, but iam sure i'll have more.
thanks for reading...

Default mpre information about Windsor

I live in Binghamton but have worked with residents of Windsor for many years now so I'm basing my comments on their input as well as my own impressions.

Residents of Windsor do much the same thing that others do in the Northeast during winter...stay indoors doing whatever, go to the shopping mall(in Johnson City), go to movies(in Binghamton), take kids to school functions, carry on their normal life. If you are involved in winter sports, then there's downhill skiing, sledding, cross country skiing, ice skating, etc. People in Windsor during the winter season are no different than those living anywhere else where the weather is cold, gray, miserable, with lots of snow and ice, and seems to go on forever.

As far as religion...again, people here are no different than anywhere else. Your religious beliefs and practices are your own business. No one really cares whether or not you go to church. It's really no big deal to others.

There are local vets scattered around...again, your larger, better equipped veterinary practices are in Binghamton.

I really don't know why anyone would consciously choose to live in Windsor when there are really much better small communities within a short distance. Better schools, infrastructure, public safety resources, medical care, shopping, entertainment, quality of life issues, on and on.

Hi Hartwick,
Thanks for your comments. What communities do think are better? I currently live in Vermont so am not at all familiar with the Windsor area. My husband is a dairy farmer so that is why we are looking at Windsor.
Thanks

Aniliz...are you looking to farm in NYS? If so, give some thought to nearby Tioga or Cortland counties.

Hi, I actually lived in Windsor until I was 17. I graduated from there and then after graduation I moved to Long Island, NY. Being as though I am only 20 years old, it was not to long ago that I was in school. I do have to say that Windsor has a great education system. Many of the teachers educate you on a much higher level. There are three elementary schools, one middle school, and one highschool. Everybody pretty much gets to know everyone. The town itself is decent, it is nice not having neighbors right ontop of you. I think Windsor is for the most part a really nice area, my family still lives there, I miss it a lot.

Default Im from Windsor

I am from Windsor. I am 22 so it was not that long ago that I went to school. All I can say is I wouldnt want to have gone to any other school! Teachers have a real good relationship with their students. They really get to know them on a personal level.. Sports are good their too! They just got a new state of the art weight room and pool and new track and feild. The town is quite. Its the type of town where you can sleep out in the yard and not worry. People leave there front doors unlocked and sleep with windows open.. I have so many good memories from windsor. Playin at the park till dark and going to the creek... Again it is small and quite but it makes you be active and find things to do. Like ride bikes go fishing, camping , hiking. In the winter you can go sleigh riding behind the middle school. And its really pretty the first snow fall with the trees. And like everyone said Binghamton is close by so you have things to do there too! I think it is a wonderful place to raise a family. I live in NC now but am thinking about moving back once my daughter gets to the age of going to school.
