Smile Putnam - Mahopac area

Hi all,

We're thinking of moving to the Mahopac area.

Can anyone who lives there shed some light on the community?

How is the shopping?
The school system?
The neighborhoods?
The community?
What is there to do up there?
How is the dining?
What's nearby?

Thanks for your insight!

Shopping: all basics are right in town (K-Mart, supermarkets, pharmacies, health food stores, deli's etc.). For shopping malls we drive about 20 min. to Jefferson Valley in Westchester or 30 min. to Danbury in Connecticut.
Schools: Blue Ribbon designation. There is a separate school for Kindergarten. 3 Elementary schools, one Middle and one High school.
Neighborhoods and community: people are nice and friendly. Housing consists mostly of single-family homes. There are no developments/sub-divisions here. Mahopac library runs a lot of programs and events for kids and adults in the community.
What to do: lots of ideas for outdoor lovers - North County bike trail runs through town with access points in few different places.
Dining: lots of pizza places! but there are other options, too...
What's nearby: very convenient location close to Westchester, NYC, Hudson River etc. Depending on what your interests are you'll most likely find something to do and places to go.
Regards,
Natasha

I heard they're blue ribbon too. But then why is the middle school rated a 7 on greatschools?? Wouldn't it be higher? We're looking in Mahopac, Somers, North and South Salem.

Natasha
I did not know Mahopac got Blue Ribbon this year...but I am not surprised. It has been highly regarded for many years.
