SUNY Cortland is primarily a teachers college. That's how it got its start. Many of them are in the Phys Ed. program and sports is a big part of the college. It's a popular school with people from downstate NY, particularly Long Island, although there students from Upstate NY.

The school has had varying degrees of being labeled a party school for many years. Town-Gown relations are sometimes strained due to off-campus student parties and other typical college student behavior.

Cortland is a pretty quiet town, so it doesn't take much activity to cause a ruckus. LOL Some might disagree, but I think the students there are pretty typical, no better or worse than your average college student in NY.
