Yes, you are safe all around in Goshen, Very good schools, very nice area lots of Dr.s and Lawyers live there. Homes are not real cheap and taxes, well they can be up there on your larger homes. Hamptonburgh and Campbell Hall also nice but part of that is Washingtonville schools, stay with Goshen Schools. What price range will you be in?

I feel very safe in Goshen but I think the taxes are high. Schools are good (for Orange County) but they are having a hard time keeping up with the growing student population.

Default Love it

I grew up there. It was great-not a really big village. Schools were excellent my brothers won scholarships to Princeton and Colgate.(They are multi multi millionaries now.) I disliked school ( I loved going-just not doing anything) and if you haven't guessed- I have nothing. But my brothers and I have very fond memories of growing up there.

Goshen is great and a safe place to live but so is Minisink and the Taxes won't kill you like Goshen and Warwick. I live in Minisink {Westtwon} and I couldn't feel safer and Daughter is doing great she's in high honors and she feels her teaching hear is better than in nyc. we are near all the shopping and the highways are near by route 84 and 17. we border NJ and we are 10mins to Pennsylvania for there shopping

Goshen is a great place to live. The schools are really excellent. Taxes are a bit high but you feel very safe walking around. Even at night. All in all goshen is beautiful- many farms. But developers want this land to put up homes by the thousands. Beware!!!

Smile Nail salons, hair salons - Goshen or Warwick or Monroe?

Looking for recommendations for all of the above...moving to Goshen from NJ and hoping for referral to a salon for hair, one for nails...that do really good top quality work.
THANKS!

I live in Goshen and love it. I have 2 kids in the schools, one is 11 the other almost 6. The schools are great. Great teachers, great principles. I can't tell you how wonderful our experiences with them have been. We are very safe here in Goshen. Take a look at the crime statistics. I live in the village and love the location. Easy walk to the library, farmers market(which is fantastic) delis, restaurants. The houses are beautiful, great neighborhoods and lots of great people. We are right next to RT. 17, next to the exit for RT. 84. We have all the stores(mall, chain restaurants, movie theater) in Middletown which is about 10 mins. away taking RT. 17. The only downfall, the taxes! I have an older home, small lot, small size and without the STARR program my taxes ate $7,500. New construction in the village is anywhere between $10,000-$15,000. If you are in the town of Goshen new construction is about the same in taxes but you'll get a bigger lot.

I grew up in the Bronx, then moved to Stony Point in Rockland with my parents. When my husband and I got together we lived in a bunch of different places in Rockland County, Stony Point, Pomona, Nanuet. In Orange County, Village of Florida, Warwick, and now Goshen. My absolute favorite place is Goshen. I love to visit the shops in Warwick, but Goshen is home to me.

Let me know if anyone has any more questions. I love to talk about Goshen!!

I answered your question on another thread you posted on but I'll put my answer here too. Blooming Nails in the village of Goshen in the CVS strip mall is where I go. Clean, nice place and they do a great job, good prices and nice ladies. I don't get my hair done in Goshen, I still go back to Rockland to my hairdresser. She's great and I won't change to someone else!

Driving from Goshen to NYC can be a pain, especially if you plan a daily commute.

My husband does it every day. The morning traffic for him isn't that bad. He has to be at work by 7am so when he leaves at 5:30am it is a long drive but he says the traffic flows steadily. Coming home is a different story. He hates it but he has to drive because of his job. Otherwise he would take the bus that stops right here in the village(walking distance from our house) that takes you right into NYC. His way of getting through it is he says living in this area(great neighbors, safe, great schools, beautiful homes) it is worth the commute.
