Hi, I lived and worked in the area 15 years ago and still have contact there. There are no large employers in a town of that size (these are villages) Foster wheeler was the large employer but that has shut down long ago. Dansville is a very nice self sufficent small town ,in that it has a hospital, grocery stores, library ect, It is near Rochester, maybe 40 min or so away. Stoney brooke park and Conesus Lake are near by and are great places. Like all of Western NY there is a lot of history, good schools, great people and low priced homes but high property taxes. Also SUNY @ Geneseo is nearby for educational advancement. All around a great little place but your probably not going to make much money working there.

Go somewhere else....I live there now and it blows. Horrible weather, boring, old person's town, drug use (I go to the High School).........but after all boring and no jobs. Our biggest employment comes from Main Tire, the School's and the Hospital. Unless you want to take 390 North to Rochester then you can get a job there.
I guess it's nice for a middle age/older couple but dull and lifeless for younger kids (like me). |

I actually have my own question about the town....
When you're driving on I-390 southbound through Dansville, does the town have tree-covered mountains to the west and east? Cause I was on a bus going back home and I think we passed through the town, and the scenery surrounding the place really caught my attention... Just wondering if that was indeed Dansville.. |

lol....well "quaint town set in tree covered mountains" describes about every small town in that area of the state, so it could have been Dansville, but it could also have been Bath, Cohocton, etc.

I lived in Dansville for 3 years between 2000 and 2003. Dansville is set in the Genese Valley surounded by Mountains (Hills). Lots of history and community events. They have a hot air Baloon festival there in the spring that is pretty cool. There are many nice people there. It is a nice town, however there is no industry there. You would have to commute to Rochester or south to find a paying job. I think most of the jobs in the area come from the schools. There is as was stated above a drug problem in the Dansville schools and not very much for children or teenagers to do.
To be honest I am glad that I do not live there any longer. If I were to move back to that area of NYS it would be towards Rochester. |

There is an insane amount of drug use and probably and you don't have to look very far to find a bar. People don't move in, they only try to get out.
