Historical references from Howard University, 1923: 1923: The Bison (likely meaning Central HS(now the Institute of Technology at Central/aka ITC)

1927: https://dh.howard.edu/cgi/viewconten...ison_yearbooks (page 53 attended Rochester’s West High(now Wilson Magnet), page 55 from Buffalo and page 81 from Ithaca(attended IHS))

1931: https://dh.howard.edu/cgi/viewconten...ison_yearbooks (page 33 from Buffalo’s Masten Park HS(now City Honors) and page 37 from Rochester’s East High)

Just to add, I saw locations like Mount Kisco, Tarrytown, Mount Vernon, Brooklyn’s Manuel Training HS(now the John Jay Campus) and Nyack(if not in these 3, in another addition from around this time period), among maybe some others.

From 1929: 1929: The Bison (from Watkins(Glen))
1929: The Bison (from Corning)
1929: The Bison (Rochester)
Also, has references from NYC, Yonkers and New Rochelle.

For those that may not know, Howard is a well regarded HBCU(Historically Black College/University) that is named after this man from Maine: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oliver_Otis_Howard

Just to dispel a myth, I know of white attendees of HBCU’s. I knew of a female from Marcellus that attended Norfolk State, as well as a Football lineman from Homer that played at Virginia Union and a girl that was from Cheektowaga(I believe went to Maryvale) that was on a bowling team at one in NC, if I’m not mistaken, not that long ago. A current example from Webster Schroeder at Alabama State: https://bamastatesports.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5437

Fisk, another highly regarded HBCU, is named after this Upstate NYer: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clinton_B._Fisk

There is also a history of Onondaga attending Hampton University, another highly regarded HBCU, in its early years as well.

A current HBCU sports reference that came from Sweet Home in Amherst: https://bsubulldogs.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4586

Another one from Tully: Syrrus Nash - UDC Firebirds Athletics Website

From Arlington outside of Poughkeepsie: https://coppinstatesports.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=1418
