Default French Woods/Hancock Question

My wife and I are planning a vacation in the upstate area, for the week of October 11-18th.

I am originally from Delaware County, so we wanted to be fairly close to that, as well as a decent sized airport (Binghamton, or Syracuse) and be able to sightsee without having to drive too far.

Hancock seems to be a good fit. We can reach the Finger Lakes (wineries), Cooperstown and a bunch of golf courses (Delhi is my favorite) from there.

My question is this.............I found a "resort" of sorts that is based around the French Woods Golf Course that offers lodging (golf course cabins, mountaintop cabins, or a hotel) and golf packages for a decent rate.

Have any of you ever played the course in question, or know anyone who has stayed there?

OR.......do you have a better suggestion for lodging, etc?

Thanks in advance...........Mike

(by the way, this is the first, sneaky step on my part to lure my wife to NY.......gotta get the heck out of Tampa)

Mike- There's a nice inn at Oquaga Lake called the Chestnut Inn (they have a website).
It is outside of Deposit (Broome County border with Delaware Cty). Therefore, it's closer to Binghamton and the Finger Lakes. I believe they have golf facilities there are nearby for guests. I don't know anything about the French Woods Course. Just a suggestion.

Consider Tennanah, not far from Hancock in Roscoe:

tennanah lake golf and tennis club, roscoe, new york

I thought French Woods was a performing arts camp for children. I've seen the cabins on Rt 97 - they look cool, but unless your wife golfs, she might be bored.

PS - check out Bethel Woods while you're there as well. You'll be there for the last day of the Harvest Festival.

Thanks for the input!

My wife is just starting to play, so we are going to get a few rounds in while we are there.

I also appreciate the information on the festival..............I think that is the same day the Ommegang Brewery in Cooperstown is having a festival (too many choices).

Mike
