we took a family trip to niagara falls this past sunday, here are some pics:

then for lunch we went to the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, NY (the alleged creators of the Buffalo Wing) for lunch. Best wings i've ever had thus far.

Wow I've lived here all my life and never heard of Letchworth. Ironically we were just in Rochester checking out St. John Fisher with our son. We went to Darien Lake the next day. We must have just about driven right past it. Spectacular pics.

Dammit, this thread is going to make me have another panic attack about missing fall in upstate. At least I'll be back for a long weekend in October.

There's a running joke that people don't know about Letchworth because few people return from it alive. That's a reference to the Gorge hiking trail, which can be extremely dangerous to anyone foolish enough to leave the marked path. (Actually, there have been only about 2 or 3 deaths in the last decade, I think.)

Letchworth is located off the beaten path along the Genesee Expressway (aka I-390) past Geneseo, near Mount Morris. Somewhat southeast of Darien Lake.

my cousin died from injuries sustained during a fall in letchworth - didn't help the first hospital he went to dismissed it as a strain and a couple other minor issues

ended up having a couple broken vertibrae, some other broken bones in his torso and internal bleeding

sad stuff - but I have no doubt he was wondering where he probably shouldn't of been - especially given his general physical condition

as with anything, just because they make it a park doesn't mean it's 100% safe

There is a much lesser known slightly less spectacular version of Letchworth in WNY. It is like Lake Erie's version of Letchworth... Zoar Valley. It is a little south of Buffalo, on Cattaraugus Creek. It's similar in that there are very steep cliffs (400-500'). It's different in that it is not a state park and is not developed, so it is wilder and more dangerous and requires some difficult hiking. It also contains lots of cascades, waterfalls, pools, and old growth forest. Very interesting place to explore. I'll post some pics sometime.

Walked up top during the Greenway trail planning mid 80's . Dont believe anything every got finished, used with this structure. ?
