Default Stoiny Point, Rockland

Hi Everyone. I am not sure this is the correct forum to post w regards to Rockland, but maybe someone can help. Does anyone have any info on Stony Point? We are from lower Westchester and looking to purchase a newer home for up to 800k. There isn't much in westchester, within 40 miles of the city, that meet our requirements. There seems to be quite a large inventory in this town in Rockland. I know the middle/ high school are supposed to be terrible- so where do people send their kids to school??? How is the elementary school? Is it considered a blue collar town, wealthy town??? I know nothing, except that I look several homes there. Do most commute to NYC? is it safe, considering it is next to Haverstraw? Thanks- any info would be great or any suggestions would be greatly welcomed!

Question Stay Out Of Stony Point

Stony Point is a lovely area...unfortunately...the school system is collapsing and the taxes are going through the roof...all you have to do is wait a few weeks and visit the high school...or you can research school scores on this site...and see what is happening....

If you are seriously looking to buy in the 800K range...why not try Putnam...a little further than you want...but NO bridge to cross...but...what I truely recommend is that you buy a book on "buying your first home"...they stress Location-Location-Location which includes numerous things...take the time..buy the book and become an informed buyer...after all...it is a Buyer's Market

Thanks Rusty for the info. Yes- I realize the schools are not desireable and assumed many don't send kids to public school. I was wondering where most parents send their kids for school. Are there any talks of separating from Haverstraw for schools? I think Putnam is a bit too far for us as my husband commutes into the city, but will look into it. I will definitely check out that book. Thanks again!

Your budget seems to allow you to look in other areas of the county. Have you searched in Clarkstown (New City, Nanuet) Orangetown ( Pearl River, Tappan, Orangeburg, Palisades) This all have great public schools Some other towns to consider are Blauvelt, Bardonia Upper Nyack, So Nyack, West Nyack , Piermont
Sparkill Hope this helped Good luck

I guess the advice I am hearing is to stay away from Stony Point??? That seems to be the consensus. Now that I am looking around a bit more- I am realizing we have more options than originally thought since prices are down so much. Thanks for the advice!
