Kingston, NY West of Washington Ave
Hi!
I'm planning to buy a house around west of Washington Ave between Linderman Ave and Elizabeth St. Is this place downtown or midtown of kingston? Is it a safe place to live? I have read on this forum concerning the crime level in kingston, especially broadway but everytime I go there, it seems to be a quiet and peaceful neighborhood. How is the crime level for this year in Kingston?
I saw the statistic in Kingston and I saw a whopping 41 registered sex offenders. That's a lot. Is the Ulster county shoving the sex offenders into Kingston or what?

I live in Kingston and like it alot (we are recent transplants from the South). The crime rate is not nearly as high as some of the posters would have you believe. We have lived here for two years and feel very safe.
I think that that location would be fine. Linderman is considered to be one of the nicer streets in Kingston. I have a co-worker who lives on Delta Place, near where you are looking and he likes his neighborhood. That street was also recommended to me when I was looking. I am not sure what your neighborhood would really be called. The City is typically described as Uptown, Midtown, and Roundout - but Midtown is a vague term that generally seems to be code for "bad neighborhood" generally the area right around Franklin and Henry Streets between Clinton Ave and Broadway.

Linderman is nice, Washington is not so nice. It has been on the downfall for the past decade or two. I have not seen it get any better. Midtown is, as said above, considered the bad part. Washing though it comes from Uptown to Midtown, is still not the nicest place to be.
