Very nice suburb of Utica, a city of just under 60,000. Hamilton College is located in the village and is a very good and small private institution. I believe the schools are very good and probably the best in the area along with New Hartford. I believe it is a very safe community and a community that is in high demand. smartyknickers is on a distinguished road
I lived in Clinton for 4 years while attending Hamilton College. It's an absolutely beautiful town, and a safe community. Extremely cold in the winter, and muggy in the summer, but charming none the less.

Clinton public schools are among the best in Oneida County, which explains the taxes. An impressive percentage of students go on to attend Ivy League colleges, competitive universities, and small selective Liberal Arts colleges such as Hamilton (which is casually referred to as a "Little Ivy.")

The college really lends vibrancy to Clinton. Everything picks up when school is in session, and the students willingly spend money in town. Hamilton draws in a number of high-profile keynote speakers, art and music performances, and cultural exhibits. Many are inexpensive or free to the public. Margaret Thatcher, BB King, Bill Cosby and Bill Clinton are just a few.

There wasn't much in Clinton by way of shopping when I lived there, but now there's a boutique that sells designer jeans! But Syracuse is only 40 minutes away, which has a nice mall. And Sangertown Mall in New Hartford isn't that bad... sort of.

Clinton is quite waspy. That's not intended to be an insult, and I'm not saying it's bad. It's just an observation. But diversity is embraced and celebrated (especially in the schools) so don't fear. Hamilton has been very proactive about recruiting talented students of different cultures and backgrounds, including some stellar international students.

In regards to finding jobs: It's not exactly a booming economic center, but there are good jobs to be found. There are three large insurance companies and three prominent hospitals in the area that employ lots and lots of people. If you're specialized (i.e. a CPA, English teacher, dentist, pharmacist) you will have no problem finding work.

Sorry for rambling on and on. Clinton is such a neat place. I hope this was helpful.

smartyknickers, it is interesting what you said about diversity in the schools there. They do have this program for males too:A Better Chance : A Better Chance Home

As you can see, there have been some successful people come out of this program nationwide and Fayetteville-Manlius, an affluent suburb just East of Syracuse, participates in this for girls too. A Better Chance : Community School Programs
