Warwick along with the shools are much better than washingtonville but the commute from Warwick isnt that great. Try Goshen, its better all around.

Agreed with Settlepa on schools and commute. Goshen is pricier then Washingonville, commute from Washingtonville is better if you take the train (5-15 min to Salisbury Mills or Harriman train station), and then another 1 hr to Hoboken), schools are better (elementary and middle). Washingtonville is near the Blooming Grove, exit 130 off Rt 17.

Avoid Washingtonville Schools at all costs.... Too much violence and really not a good district. Warwick may be a little out of the way, but much preferable. Goshen is good, Monroe is good, being close to 17 and the NYS Thruway and has one of the best school districts in the area.

To hjlacey:
My son is in one of the Washingonville's elementary schools and I love it. I love everything: the atmosphere, the academics, the teachers, etc. (not the lunch menu and the school taxes, though)! We came from the City where we saw pretty much anything and everything and the fact that there is no armed security guard on duty in school means a lot. And yes, I like the academics! They don't only teach my child to read and write, they teach to think globally and differently. As for the nasty accidents in Washingtonville’s middle and high schools you may be referring to: unfortunately, there are idiots in any school district and in any school system - public or private. This is life and you are not much safer in Goshen, Warwick and Monroe. Nobody is suggesting moving to Middletown or Newburg regardless of how great they are. I am merely stating my own opinion on Washingtonville schools and of course there will always be somebody who disagrees with me.

I disagree with hjlacey.
My children all graduated with Regents Diplomas from Washingtonville. It is a small close knit town. Commuting is much easier from there than Warwick (where I also lived for a short time). Most of the "danger" in any school district is due to a few bad eggs (don't spoil the whole bunch). I'd love to know where her children went to school. The two worst things I can remember is that we lost five NYPD and NYFD officers on 911 and my girlfriends daughter died in a car crash the week before graduation (no drugs or alcohol were involved). Anything else someone out of district has to say is trivial. Yes there are drugs and there was a rediculous video on UTUBE about a staged fight. Our police department is one of the best in the area (no I am not a family member of a policeman or fireman). They currenly have the lowest taxes in the area, but they will be needing a few new school buildings in the near future. You are close to Stewart Airport and West Point. These things are bringing more people to the area. Since I've been there we have established bus routes to NYC and there is a choice of Monroe or Salisbury Mills for the trains. I am pretty sure we even have dial a bus which is wonderful for those without cars, the diabled and elderly. I recently relocated to Salisbury Mills which is served by the Cornwall school district. I am much closer to downtown Cornwall so I spend more time there and Vails Gate which has a large shopping area. Parts of Salisbury Mills are in the Washingtonville district so it is a good choice if you are looking for a more rural setting.
Just my 2 cents

At least someone agrees with me on the living in Washingtonville! This is a pleasant village with a decent school district. I was told that the roads are bad, and there is a Mountain Lodge park which is a dangerous place. Over the last three years we've been living here, in the close proximity to the Mountain Lodge Park, we have NOT seen any unusual police activity, enjoyed the roads (yes, they are bad if one is to compare them to the Hollywood red carpet), and have been happy with the elementary school. The neighborhood is pretty diversified: one can see new mansions and old split-level houses on the same street, and all these leads me to believe that the neighborhood is improving.

I've lived in Blooming Grove for 20 years now and all 3 of my children have gone to Washingtonville Schools. We used to know everyone in town, but that is all changing as the town is turning over to more people from congested areas like Staten island, Bronx, etc. It is loosing it's home town feel. I now live in Salisbury Mills, but my taxes are Blooming Grove and they are KILLING ME. My Real Estate Taxes on a New home purchased in 2005 on 2 acres went from $8000 to $19,000.00!!!! For what? I live on a private road, no snow plowing, no police patrols, spotty garbage pickup, etc.
I'm looking to get of out this area based on the Taxes alone.
I would think twice about moving to Blooming Grove, Cornwall, or Monroe for that matter just based on the HUGE tax burden you will be faced with.

Rockland is nice and a bit closer but more costly. There is also Suffern or Tuxedo in Orange County. Search homes in the hudson valley at Moderator cut: advertising
