New business in Addison or Campbell Idea
Hi My husband and I are considering moving to Campbell, NY from Charlottesville, Va Long story but it would be for a cheap house through family. I am thinking it would be a good idea to open some kind of business in Addison or Campbell I know that the economy in both towns is slow I understand that but I want to create jobs even if it is just a couple and keep the money in the town. What kind of places would be good? I was thinking maybe a variety store with a little bit of everything including clothes or maybe a resturant/bar but I am a little concerned about that because country boys can get rough! I want a respectable business that would do well and that there is a need for in that community. Also my husband is a general contractor is there any work for him in these areas. Thank you everybody for your input.

best of luck with being a general contractor in that area - very tough, especially with the overall slowdown and the winter coming
if reliable there is work to be found with some of the small family contruction groups - pay and benefits aren't the best though
as for business, not sure what you could really get going in that area, especially when it comes to location
unfortunately it seems that most new stores that are going up in the area are dollar stores, pharmacies and bars
if you have a touch for bbq, may be a calling for that - can't think of a single bbq spot in that area

Thank you I was leaning towards the food industry. I am not impressed with the food choices for Addison at all. The only good food I can say I got there was at some resturant by the railroad tracks. It was for breakfast and they had the best toast with butter I know it sounds silly but I loved it. Maybe a nice family returant, good decorations, nice atmosphere and a game room for the kids with a variety of menu choices. I grew up in Addison so I know I won't get rich but maybe make enough to get by while creating a couple of jobs. Thanks for your input on my husband I figured it would be like that and he is from NYC so ................ Maybe we will just stick to the returant idea. Thanks A Lot

no problem - i really hope you guys can make an impact in the community as it sure can use any help it can get
when i visit back home I still make runs to places like the savona diner (although it's been some years and i'm not even sure if this is still around) and a couple local bar/restaurants
unfortunately most that open up seem to have unreliable service/quality and can't keep going
there are some unassuming places that have been going for a long time though - divey little places with decent food and a bar crowd that goes into the night - think Kill Buck Inn in Canisteo or DJs Flamingo in Bath
if all else fails, grab some clubs and play 9 at pinnacle and enjoy the views

If all else fails I guess I will have to learn how to play golf I guess LOL!!! We are young I am in my 20's so I would have a diffrent view on how to run a business no offense to any locals. We are coming for a visit in November. Do you have any recommendations for a realtor that could help us find business space? I know there is a lot of empty spaces but I don't want them to think I am just a flatlander and can afford to pay crazy prices heck I have Addison in my blood (it's just thinned out a bit). Thanks for your help
