I love New Yorkers!

But I can't take the high cost and lack of nature.

I'm an ad writer. Where should I go for funkiness on a budget? I mean a real budget like I want a $650 1 br.

Louisville KY?
Asheville NC
Pittsburgh Penn
Providence?
Some towns in Upstate NY?
Anywhere in New England?

Where are expat New Yorkers going?

Wink Lack of Nature? Huh?

I'm flummoxed that you think New York has a lack of nature!

Get out of the city and go to the Adirondacks, Catskills, or anyone of the National Forests or 170 state parks! You have everything here from the ocean to the mountains.

It's already all in your own back yard, if you'd just look. I'm prejudiced, but you live in the most beautiful state already.

I'm equally flummoxed.... if you don't own a car or can't drive just take Amtrak north to Poughkeepsie, Albany,Saratoga or Plattsburgh... and you're in striking distance of the Catskills or Adirondaks. It doesn't get more serene than that.

I've had decent apartments in Buffalo for $550 that included heat, could try there.

Let me correct you: Do you mean NYC when you referred to a "lack of NATURE"? Because obviously is not THE REST OF THE STATE OF NY, where NATURE is fully in abundance. Upstate New York, has the Castkill Mountains, Adirondack Mountains, Niagara Falls, and a multitude of trails, parks, etc. And even within the CITY, you will find a lot of nature in the borough of Staten Island.

Some go to the Carolinas, Florida, southwest part of the US, if you move upstate rent can be cheap BUT other taxes will nail you and winter heating costs are scary. Good luck!

Default Here's a thought

Have you considered Oneida, NY in Madison County?!! Just 20 minutes to Syracuse or Utica via the NYS thruway. 15 minutes to beautiful Oneida Lake and 10 minutes to Turning Stone casino.
