Yeah, and we're expected to get another 1-3 feet in the next few days here.
You know the snow can be a pain (not bad if you don't have to shovel yourself or drive far), but I know when I come home my house won't be blown away (tornado or hurricane), knocked off the foundation (earthquake), filled with six feet of mud (floods), or burnt to the ground (sage fires).
Don't fear people, it's only in Oswego County that we measure snow in feet. You're safe in Syracuse. They measure snow in inches.

We keep hearing about Oswego, Parish, Redfield, etc. here on the Philadelphia news stations. How about Syracuse proper? How much so far, Bellafinzi?

The Syracuse Airport, where they take the official snow measurement, had about 12 inches of snow from this Nor'-easter....but many areas around here are reporting about 15 - 20 inches. This was a big storm though. It has been one of the worst snowstorms since the Blizzard of 93'. Colleges cancelled classes yesterday. The last time Syracuse University closed was in the 1993 blizzard.
For the 10 day Lake Effect event (last week), Syracuse had 17 inches of snow. So far this season, Syracuse has had about 81 inches of snow, with about 80% of that in the last four weeks because we had very little snow in Nov. Dec. or early January.
This is one of the coldest and snowiest 4 weeks I ever remember in Syracuse. We made up for the lack of snow from the first two months of winter, just in one month. Our normal high is 34 degrees today, but our forecast is only for 13 degree. Our normal low is 16 degrees. So our highs have been lower than our average lows for nearly a month. Crazy.

Same here, Bellazini. We got about 2 feet yesterday in the Plattsburgh area. It was a record breaker in the Burlington, VT area I guess. Can't complain, though, after what they've been going thru in the lake effect snow belt.

Wow, this is history in the making. Syracuse is getting pounded with more Lake Effect today. This has to be the 3rd worst snowstorm in Syracuse's history.
Blizzard of 66'
Blizzard of 93'
Valentine's Super Storm 07'
This is the most snow I've ever seen on the ground in Syracuse. We've had almost 75 inches of snow within 5 weeks with no melting, just compacting. I've never seen that much snow without a January thaw. In "normal winters" we get at least two big melt downs before snow piles up again. Not this year, it just keeps snowing.
75% of the time, when Winterfest starts, so does another thaw and events are cancelled. This year Winterfest might be cancelled due to too much snow.
Schools are closed again today. The snow piles in my yard are larger than I've seen since the Blizzard of 93'. Glen NY, hope you are enjoying this, you may never see this much snow in your life again.

From this one storm plus the lake effect after the storm....the three day total snowfall for Syracuse is about 30 inches. Some suburban areas are reporting 10 inches more than that.
That's only 13 inches less than the Blizzard of 93'....where Syracuse had a record breaking 43 inches of snow from one storm. I haven't heard anyone say it yet, but I believe this storm will be ranked the 3rd biggest in Syracuse history.
-January 9th 2007 Syracuse had only 13 inches of snow for the season
-February 16th 2007 Syracuse now has 98 inches of snow for the season
That's 85 inches in less than 6 weeks!!!!
BTW, Syracuse's average to date is 86 inches.

How Do You Get to Work?
SGoldie and Bellafinzi how do you get to work in all that snow! It seems like everything would come to a screeching halt. I guess it seems so much worse to me now since I haven't lived in snow in over 30 years. Look at what happened to the drivers in PA, which is my former home state.

Have to laugh about the snow. Went to school in Oswego in the early 70's. Especially remember the winter of 1972...very similar to this year. Mild January..then major dump of snow into February. My car was covered with snow (parked in the street) until late March when we finally saw the radio antenae sticking up.
I remember the coast guard airlifting food onto campus and most importantly...the sub shops and beer stores were still open and delivered by snowmobile and by adventurous students with toboggans.
I see that Hewey, Dewey, Louie and Frank still are there but the Big Dick is now two big dick's....smokestacks all.....

I am originally from Upstate NY, the Sandy Creek/Pulaski area. I now live in Harrisburg, PA. I would rather have all the snow upstate NY has been gettign than the ice we got last week. It was NASTY!!!!!!

Yup, our V-Day was 38 inches in 25 hours. We had a nice melt in the last two days, but 6 more inches have fallen today, and it is still snowing....and we are in Southern Tier!
The dogs love it.....us snow plowers/shovelers are getting tired.....but, we earn our cocktails
