In Chautaqua and Cattaragus coutines, you gan go from really low cost in some old towns to overly high priced in the snotty one ( the few there are -- like Ellicottvile). Check the makeup of the town before you think of buying.

Thanks BT
I'm definitely going to make some trips up before I settle on things, I'm not really into site-unseen (did that for an apartment once- BIG MISTAKE! lol)
Are there any good areas (not overpriced, snobby or cracksville) that you could recommend?
Thanks!

I grew up in Chautauqua County and all my family still lives there. I would recommend Bemus Point. Nice schools, beautiful scenery (hills and Chautauqua lake), close to Jamestown for "big box" (Wal Mart, a small mall, grocery stores) shopping needs and lots of summertime visitors but not as snobby as The Institute.

Hi Criss.
Thanks for the info. I'm definitely not into snobby attitude, so I appreciate the input. And that sounds lovely, hills and lake. And good schools, of course.
Since you're familiar with that area, are there any ethnic food markets in the area? I'm thinking like asian groceries, east Indian or hispanic groceries? Is there anything like that there or in Jamestown, or would I have to travel to Buffalo or Erie? Thanks!

You might find a Hispanic grocery in Jamestown, but probably not Asian or Indian. You will find some great Swedish bakeries and markets though in the Jamestown area.

Dunkirk in regards to the Hispanic stores too, as well as maybe a Polish or Italian type of store too.

Mina, I'm not sure if there are Wegman's grocery stores in your area. They exist in much of the northeast and there is a good one in Jamestown. Wegman's I think is fantastic, the best grocery store I know, very good quality and selection, including ethnic stuff (in fact they make sushi).
