Moving to Potsdam
I'm moving to Potsdam in August. I would love any helpful information (good or bad) about the city. I'm really looking forward to my move. Thanks.

I hope you enjoy your move to Potsdam.
It's a beautyfull city, there is a lot to see. The city is very old.
This city is Eastgermany and the criminalrate are high. The spoken slang are funny and it's difficult to understand what people say . The westgermans and the estgermans dont like together. You will see.
I think you are going for work to Potsdam. A lot of the population are unemployed and it's very hard to find a job.
If you just going for a sightseeingtour it will be very interesting.
If you want to know more about potsdam give me a message.

Moving from Albany, NY to Canton, NY
My husband and I are thinking about moving further
north to the northern country of new york. Our
main concerns are dealing with the cold winters and
being homebound and bored for 6 months or more.
We currently live and grew up in the Albany, NY area where we seem to be hermits for 6 months of the year, but wer'e used to it. However, we don't want
to make it worse by going further north. Canton is about four hours north of Albany and we wer'e wondering if the winter's were extremely colder?
Also, during the warmer months, we like to go camping with our children (ages 5&10) and would
like to have a seasonal site near a beutiful body of water. Any suggestions? I noticed the Cranberry Lake area has camping areas. Any comments?
From what I read, the schools are excellent. We like
small schools that instill good morals and standards for the children. Do you think the Canton schools provide such benefits?

I go to college in Potsdam NY. The area is beautiful after the storms, however the wind can be pretty awful during the winter. The town is cute, but very small. The local businesses seem to be having trouble since Walmart moved in, however Walmart is a fast way to get what you need. There are plenty of mountains and trails close by so it is a great place for the outdoors. The Crane school of Music also offers a wide variety of musical talent and events perfect for any family outing. Hope this helps!

Potsdam is a cute, small college town set in a rural area of farms and lakes. It is mostly walkable, has very low crime and friendly people. The local colleges offer great opportunities to enjoy art, drama and musical performances. There are great rivers and trails nearby, so if you enjoy swimming, boating, hiking and camping you will be in heaven. There is a small co-op in town has a decent variety, as well as a bread shop.
Stacey, I have lived in both Albany and Potsdam and the winters are comparable. Potsdam is not within the heavy Watertown/Tug Hill snow band, so the snow is not much heavier than Albany, nor does it seem colder.
Morals and standards are highly subjective, so I am unable to comment on that part of your question. I can say that the universities create a more liberal atmosphere than many of the more isolated small towns in the northern NY, which I consider a very good thing.
