I am from Western New York (Medina) and I currently go to school in SUNY Oswego. The snow is bad all over, but Oswego is such a different kind of bad. The wind is so POWERFUL on the snowy days that sometimes I just give up on going to class. If you want pleasant snow, then western new york or the northeast of the state is the way to go. Central New York on the other hand...

Yeah, Oswego is the right answer - Lord knows I have only visited a few times for work associated with the Nine Mile Point power plants there - but if your attitude towards snow is "bring it on!", well, Oswego is for you.

Be careful what you ask for here though - you can find more moderate portions of snow in other places that should be more than sufficient.

Oswego was so bad when I went to school there that I couldn't see any people on my way to class one day, until I came across them walking on campus. Then, I came to find out that class was canceled, but we had it anyway, because the professor was already there. It also didn't help that Lake Ontario is right there. i could see it when walking outside of my dorm.

With that said, the people seem to be nice and down to earth there. A lot of history there too.

Lake effect snow is what you want, and the prevailing winds are largely from West to East... So Buffalo gets dumped on heavily by Lake Erie, and Watertown gets dumped on heavily by Lake Ontario. If I recall, Watertown averages something like 10 feet of snow per year.

Please don't lump all of Central New York with Oswego! The Syracuse area and points south and east don't get nearly as much snow as Oswego. The wind is nothing like Oswego either since much of Central New York is miles away from a Great Lake.

I think we can all agree that Oswego County is in it's own league when it comes to snow.
