we are 15 min from woodbury commons, 15 from ramsey - bergen county, 15 from suffern (rockland) - live in a neighborhood with a bunch of great families, and a swingset and a gorgeous lake - honestly one of the prettiest lakes you probably ever saw - crystal clear...also 15 minutes from the new tuxedo ridge resort which features an amazing restaurant and 5 minutes from a gorgeous new construction site!

Monroe and Chester are good areas and closer to NY transportation. Monroe Woodbury is an excellent school district.

Hows Florida New York? Beazer homes has a new home development there....Is it still out in the boonies...or shall I assume that everything is being built up. My husband will need to commute to GWB area in New Jersey.

Is NJ/PA shopping nearby too?

mom2gurls,

Florida is a unique little village between Chester and Warwick. It's not a bad community but you could do better and get closer to the city for the same price.

Florida's school district is very small. Elementary school is ranked 1021st of 2178 in NY state. Not impressive. S.S. Seward Inst covers grades 6 through 12, and NY State assessments scores for 8th grade are below 70%.
Warwick is much better. Definitely no Chester schools.

Default Coming from Monroe...

We just moved to Monroe from Rockland County. Me and my husband both commute (myself to Rockland, my husband to NYC) and it's a pleasant commute. We are right next to both the thruway and Route 6 (Which leads into the palisades parkway). The thruway is a great way to get to Rockland and it takes me about 40 minutes to get to the ny/nj border. My husband's commute is a little longer. It also depends what time you leave (though the thruway is usually moving fast even if it is dense).

We love the Monroe area. It's not the boonies, there are tons of stores and playgrounds etc., the school district (monroe-woodbury) is supposed to be supurb (our kids arent school aged yet though) and the religious population mentioned is not overly dominant. They are around, in the supermarkets and such, but they tend to stay in their communities as far as where they live. Rockland actually seems to have a denser population from what I've seen (I was a Rockland resident for over 20 years).

The people that live around here are also much more outgoing and friendly in general than Rockland and Westchester. I dont know about the school district there, but i also have a friend in New Windsor which is about 15 minutes from me and I heard there are beautiful condos in that area.

There are some condos off Rte 207 in New Windsor. They are newer but they are right on top of each other. Thruway acccess is not that great either as Union Avenue and 207 are just getting busier and busier by the month. I guess you can go through Cornwall on 9W to get to the next exit down but honestly I say Monroe is a better deal because NFA is not the best school district it is in "needs improvement" status..

Goshen NY is THE place to live. Great schools, great people, its a small big town. So I happy I left Scarsdale with the family to move here. Takes 1.5 hours to NYC.
