Default college life in delhi for downstate kid

What is Delhi like once college gets going? I am thinking of sending my child there for school - we are from downstate, and don't want culture shock to take place.

If by 'downstate' you mean NYC there will be some severe 'culture shock' for an urban-raised college-bound freshman. On the other hand, college is supposed to be a somewhat insulated and insular, campus based culture of learning.....

We live 20 miles north of the city in a very small town - in fact the town of Delhi reminds me very much of home. I am thinking more of off-campus activities - bowling, movies, dining, etc - although I know there is a ton of activities on campus.

Ah, well maybe not such a big shock then. I don't live in Delhi, but go through there fairly regularly and I'd say that I don't think there is a heck of a lot on offer for a college-age kid. Maybe that would be a good thing- not much in the way of distractions from school work! Hopefully someone else on the board who actually lives in Delhi will be able to post more for you.

I'd make a couple trips up. As was stated, there WILL be culture shock for someone used to a bustling city. My brother went Delhi, and he and his friends found plenty to do. But then again we grew up in the area. Not much in the way of night life unless you go to Oneonta, and even that's not really "big" city nightlife. I think if your son likes the outdoors, and outdoor activities, he'll be fine.
