If you are looking to move to Long Island. Try Lynbrook or Rockville Centre. If you would like a short commute to Manhattan and the airports. Middle Village,Bayside, Forest Hills. Good Luck

Hi I live in Rockland County --on the New Jersy side of th Hudson river about 20 miles north of the Geaorge Washington Bridge. The average commute to downtown is about 1 hour and 15 minutes and t midtown 1 1/2 hours. We are approximately 45 minutes away from Newark and Lauardia airports. You can get much more money for you house on this side of the bridge. You can definiately get a nice 4 or 5 bedroom house in the lower Rockland County Communities for $600-$700K--a really nice house maybe even a new house for that price. I am a realtor at Joyce Realty look at our webite Joycerealty.com to see what types of houses are available near here. For schools stick to Orangetown, Pearl River or Clarkestown schools. If you woudl liek me to do an MLS search for you I could do that as well just email me your criteria and I could send you some home ideas. The towns in lower Rockand include Pearl River, Orangeburg, Palisades, Sparkhill, Blauvelt, West Nyack, and Nyack. By staying in New York you will also avoid double taxation (if you live in NJ and work in NY you have to pay taxes to both states.) Good luck and let me know if you need any help.

i work about 5 miles from laguardia airport and live in a babylon village on long island. it usually takes me around 45 minutes door to door with no traffic rush hour is obviously worse but its well worth the commute. i can't say enough great things about my town. we moved here 10 years ago, and since then we've had two kids 9 and 7. we've made a ton of friends and when i say friends i mean great friends. genuinely good hearted people. babylon village is a small incorporated village, everyone knows everyone! which is sometimes bad but generally its great! the schools are fabulous, because we're a small town our graduating high school class is less than 250 kids. the teachers at the elementary schools as well as the grade school are very caring and take a real interest in the kids. we've got a ton of activities for the kids especially sports--lacrosse, baseball, soccer, football, wrestling you name it we've got it. we've also got some of the best restaurants and bars for the grown ups! we're a boating community- the beach is just a few minutes away we also have a town pool thats really lovely and the kids have a great time there all summer-- as you can see i really love living here---unfortunately we may have to move next year, my parents live in fla and my dad is very ill, i can't stand the thought of moving so we may just rent our house out for a year and see what happens. in any case you may want to check us out we've got our own website www.babylonvillage.com. if you decide to check it out the town of babylon is divided in three parts north babylon, west babylon and the village. make sure you search for a home in the village with village schools! some of the homes are in the village with west babylon schools.
p.s my neighbor is also from england-manchester- she came as a nanny when she was 20 for what was supposed to be a few months- 18 years later she's married with two lovely daughters - she loves living here too! if you have any questions please feel free to im

if your husband will be flying a lot look at Port Washington, Garden City and Rockville Centre on Long Island. if it won't be that often consider NJ or Connecticutt. Ridgefield is nice but what's the commute?

you might even want to go further out on Long Island to Huntington.

Default northern westchester and putnam county, too

Don't forget to look for info on northern westchester (north and south salem, katonah, mount kisco) and into putnam county (brewster, carmel, cold spring). pretty areas and still close enough to everything.

I'm not a big one for apologizing for the ways of the USA, my native land, but that is damned uncivilized.

The cultural backwater that is Long Island must be Calvary indeed for a civilized European.

Default Westchester NO, NJ Yes...

I don't see how Westchester would work for you. If your husband needs to travel, then NJ and Newark are it. And I don't even live anywhere near NJ! There are many excellent communities West and NW of Newark. Start Googling!
