Wanting to relocating to the Fredonia area
I am wanting to relocate my family to the Fredonia area from Ohio to take over long time family owned property.Having trouble with employment search.I have 13 years exp. in site development and underground utilities and now own business here. We love the area there and will keep trying just thought I might get lucky here, I have been trying to find something for a few months now.I know not the right time of year for my exp. but I would consider any type of work there or close to.

hey dpal,
I live in Jamestown, NY which is about a 30 mins away from Fredonia. I love that town, it is so warm and comfortable. There is the SUNY college, and you are within driving distance of Buffalo. As far as jobs, Fredonia really doesn't have that many in your field, unless you apply for a county or city job. I would suggest looking for work in either Jamestown or Buffalo. Here is the link for the Jamestown Post-Journal (which covers chautauqua co.).

Good luck, if you have any questions let me know.

I also would like to hear anything about Fredonia. If anyone has any info on ANYTHING, please post. I know it's located in a scenic area, and honestly have read only good about it on this forum, but that's about it.

Recent college grad who came back to town.
Its been about 11 years since i have moved to Fredonia NY to go to college. I moved here from near Albany NY. After moving away, and checking out some southern states, (NC, TN, etc...) I decided I'd move back. Why?
Plenty to do. College town, lots of people out and about, and involved in community activities. Sure, the occational drunk college kid wanders through your yard, but only if you buy a house near college rentals; so walk the neighborhood first. Plenty of new houses and streets going in, so nice new houses are available.
Nice people. The first thing i noticed when i came out to check out Fredonia was the people. Most everyone is insanely nice.
Low crime. Other than the occational lawn gnome being stolen by that drunk college kid, crime is minimal. Tip: buy heavy gnomes.
Jobs. ok, so there are not TONS of jobs... but there are not TONS of people living here either. There do seem to be lots of manufacturing jobs. I drive to buffalo NY for work (its a 45 minute commute, but totally worth it). Just need to find a carpool.
Cheap eats. Tons of places to eat, great food. People come and visit me and when we go out they ask "why so cheap?" and "do you ever use your kitchen with prices like this?". Sure... we have your chain places but also plenty of family run joints.
Services: When you have a heart attack from eating 8 dollar steaks every night, there is a good chance an EMT isn't far off. The fire / police are awesome. Response time is REALLY fast.
Proximity: close to Erie PA, Buffalo NY, Niagara Falls (USA / Canada).
Weather: Yes, it snows. But, guess what southern folk, they make this thing called a "plow". It clears the streets. Believe it or not, you CAN drive in the winter. We also salt/sand the streets so your car doesnt slide off. Winter is a blast - go skiing, snowmobiling, or build that fire and watch the flakes come down. Its not that bad! Spring Summer Fall are great too.
If the numbers are where you want them to be (pop, crime, price, etc.) then check out the town.

I have 24 blurred months of foggy memories from Fredonia. But what great, fun, blurry memories they are!!!
It's a small town between Buffalo and Jamestown so if you don't mind a hefty commute you could likely find work in Buffalo. But it'll be a serious commute particularly in the snowy, cold, frozen, long-and-terrible, near-the-great-lakes winter.
