Senator Clinton..... again! It'll be great!
While Governor Paterson takes his time deciding on who to appoint upon Senator Clinton's departure, a few names have popped up in conversation. Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown, Congressman Brian Higgins, neither name is outstanding as retaining "Senator Clinton" by assigning President Clinton the successor. William Jefferson Clinton would be the best choice!

No what needs to happen is a special election for that vacated spot. And Higgins may be good for the Buffalo area also. He knows the the Buffalo area really well.

It would be amazing if the new senator would be from Upstate/Western NY but it seems doubtful. We thought we had a shot with Golisano being nominated for Governer and hopefully that may be more of a possiblity in 2010....but we'll have to see.

I agree, I don't think Clinton would be good for NY. We need someone from upstate NY, or things will never change.

BuffaloTransplant, have you seen the neighborhood of the "born & bred" politician that's considering Hillary's seat? Sure, he's taken care of the suburban areas of his district, other than the waterfront, the congressman has ignored his "hometown" roots. A member of the transportation committee has a community with some of the worse roads in the city. To my mind, that doesn't make for a good candidate as a United States Senator.
Brown is opportunistic. He was a senator turned mayor, now seeking a different level of Senate. His best interest is to remain a carreer politician.
Bill Clinton though, having led our country, his education and experience makes him ideal for the job once Hillary changes roles. He has charm, and popularity and (from what I understand) a good working relationship with Governor Paterson.

No he won't be a good senator. Hillary wasn't good for this part of NY either. Just like when the gas prices started falling all but here, where was she. Not here helping out WNY. We need someone from this area that understands the area and will help to make it a better place again.

Patterson gets to pick someone to fill the post until next years elections. Whoever he picks will likely be the front runner to retain the post. I hope its someone from upstate.

From the top down, where have any of our elected people been with the gas prices? It seems unfair to put the fault on Hillary when (state) Senate, Congress, Assembly, Legislature, or city/town councils hadn't address the issue either. Looking at the current upstate reps, they're none the different than if a downstater was appointed, that's why I say Uncle Bill would be the best choice, he's not entrenched in kick-backs.

CNN has just confirmed that President Clinton doesn't have an interest in taking over the Senator's seat. CNN also said that Governor Paterson will make the announcement next month, and that the appointment will be held until the 2010 election.
