What area would you be relocating from? This often plays into how much you might like your next residence.

We're moving from Florida, but we lived most of our lives in upstate NY... Manhattan & Poughkeepsie area. I know they get a lot of snow up that area, but if our plan comes together we'll be retiring so getting to work won't be an issue.
I've read good & bad about the Rochester/Buffalo area haven't seen anything on Mt. Morris.

Aren't you going in the wrong direction?
I thought retirement meant following south on the compass? Be that as it may, I don't live there, but have gone by there many times . Small town, near a highway providing good north/south access, situated in the Finger lakes(boating, wineries, etc..), etc.. I've told others in the past the best time to check out an area in upstate NY is in the winter. If it seems okays to you at that time, so will the other seasons. I'm east and south of there...Owego.

Ha ha ha!! Yep....my life sure has been bass ackward!!! There's no way for us to retire here in Fla. Getting way too expensive hence the reason of moving north.
I can get 1/2 a million selling here (even in the slow market) and buy a house up that way for less than 125,000.00 invest the rest & pull a monthly paycheck from the investment. We won't be rich, but I think we can live comfortably & without worrying if our insurance or taxes are gonna triple.
I guess the town has the usual supermarkets, Burger King, Walgreen's etc. so we don't need much more!! I was wondering about the crime in the area from other posts I've read here though. Here we leave our houses unlocked & haven't had a problem so far.

Mt. Morris is horrible.....small town, not much to do. Constant construction work on Main St. and various streets. Lots of drugs and people hanging in the streets all night.

Mount Morris is a small quaint town. It is on the rim of Letchworth State Park which is called by us "The grand Canyon of the East" A must see when in WNY. It would be a nice place to retire. Quiet and calm. It does get snow, but as you know the trucks do a great job keeping the roads clear. Travel only a prob when we get the few big storms. Its about 45 min to an hour to Rochester. Maybe less now that the expressway is there. I made the drive for a few months before 390 and it took 45 min. Its a great small town.

My sister and now husband used to live in Mt Morris when they worked for Farm Credit, and I had visited them several times, and I actually like the area, especially for the younger folk, as SUNY is close by. The weather during the winter wasnt so bad (other than the snow) and the summers we're quite comfortable. They talked about moving back to Mt Morris before the birth of their son, but now they're staying put in the Adirondacks.

I know tons about the area, Please never leave your doors unlocked, and be careful who you trust. There is alot of crime there and only recently has it been brought to light, lots of small town hush hush. There is a great saying about Mt. Morris "telephone, telegraph, tell anybody in town and the whole area will know it",as my daughter just said if the Avon lady stops by they know what you bought, why and for who LOL.
On the good side alot of businesses have been there consistently. One person talked about Letchworth State Park.Stonybrook is also not far from there.
My idea would be keep looking for a better area, but thats just my idea.
As for us we are GEORGIA bound woohoo.
