Default rochester vs. albany...

i've been looking at moving to albany but i left the option open for rochester as well. i'm originally from utica and it seemed that about half of my high school class ended up in the rochester area. i figured something must be going on there. anyway, how does it stack up against albany as far as economy goes as well as things to do? i work from home based out of a company in the UK so finding a job immediately is really not an issue.

is there a reason why albany so much more expensive as far as apartments go? does that translate to the job market? economy?

Albany is slowly but surely becoming part of NYC's ever extending hinterland. Rochester is definitely still all upstate at heart. Albany is where he government is...and the NYS government sure doesn't ever go out of business! Rochester had a rough decade with major layoffs at kodak...and just as the effects from that were starting to wear off and the job growth was gaining momentum again....this damn recession came. I think we will climb out of this recession with the rest of the country this time though...unlike the 2001 recession that Rochester never really got the chance to recover from.

False. Would that it were so. I hate NYC culture but it would be nice for Albany to have any sort of culture. Anyway, Albany's economy is better, but Rochester has a better attitude and culture and more going on in general. I've lived in both places and I 100% prefer Rochester.

I have not lived in Albany as for Rochester it is true that there is a lot of culture here lots to do,
a really good housing market and a lot of big projects about to kick off in the downtown area.
